BAND BIO

"Bloodroot for a time was known as Johnny Young. Hard rocking and deeply grooving, their powerful, driving sound borrows from both the heaviness of metal’s caveman stomp and the melodic accessibility of post-grunge '90s rock. “Live, they deliver the goods in a raw and vibrant fashion.” – [Creative Loafing]

Rising amongst the skyscrapers, peering their heads over Times Square, it's Bloodroot, NYC's fastest moving hard rock phenomenon. Combining the awesome trademark of crunchy guitars through Marshall Amps with driving, hard hitting drum beats with a mixture of undeniably infectious vocal melodies and tasty harmonies, Bloodroot has begun to define their own style which while influenced by many is perfectly suited to today's music world - darkly melodic hard rock with a touch of psychedelia. Drawing on inspiration provided by everybody from the Black Sabbath and the Beatles to
Kurt Cobain and Alice In Chains.

Bloodroot is Johnny Young on lead vocal and guitars, Roman on bass and backing vocals, Doug Vannoni on guitars and backing vocals, and Ross Kantor - one of the best drummers out there. The band has been Johnny's
creation, which is now a collaboration in 4 parts.

BLOODROOT IS:

Johnny Young - vocals and guitar

Johnny cut his teeth right out of school with former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor as the singer and keyboard player in his touring band. Yes, Johnny has been blind since he was 17. Since then, he has bruised his legs and his forehead on numerous stages across the North American continent and around the world, gigging, recording, producing, and even winning an Emmy Award. Among Johnny's production credits are a list of known and unknown artists too long to run away with here. His own bands have included the CMJ charting Dark Black Past, as well as Mudgod.

If you are interested in Johnny's history, check out Johnny's personal site - This is a work in progress.... He refuses to be catagorized.

Roman - bass and backing vocals

Bassist and backing vocalist, Roman has studied piano since the age of 5 leading him to a life of music which produced Numerous album credits and touring experience for him, including Elektra records. His eclectic sense of playing has given him to excellence in a diverse style of rhythms and music. Studying eastern music to Jazz, from Rock to Classical, as a player, composer and arranger, Roman has found that his path has now lead him to Johnny Young, an equally talented and diverse player. "Our mission,-and we decide to accept it,- is to blow the doors off the rock world, taking music and molding it into something people haven't heard before!" Roman's site is here

Ross Kantor - drums

Ross has been drumming long enough to fake out Bloodroot into having him play.;-) After studying various styles of music I just can't deny my roots in rock, Thanks to my older brother."thanks bro!" Touring with Chaotic Past in the US and Europe, And auditioning for the past two years finaly brought the cream of the crop too Ross. "Auditioning is a great way to find out where you stand with yourself if not with others." "I found out within the first few moments that Johnny is a fertile well of ideas that was freeflowing." It was very welcoming.

Ross is WAY too modest - he rocks his ass off!

Doug Vannoni - guitar and backing vocals

Doug started playing guitar when he was 6, even earlier if you count a plastic toy guitar. He's been playing in bands around New York since he was a teenager. Peppermint Genius, The Jumping Nasby's & Mister Popular to name a few. He can even sing back up, and believe us, we're gonna put him to work. He's a real team player who's really gonna help us elevate our live show to another level and, just in time for the release of DEEP, our new CD - hmmmm, funny how that timing worked out. Anyway, we auditioned a bunch of guys, and we think this one's a keeper....

Karl Wilcox - drums

Drummer and philosopher, Karl grew up in Birmingham, England. Playing drums in a rock band gave his life meaning. He began performing with Birmingham based bands, the first noticeable one being Requiem. Soon after, he was recruited by the noted British New Wave Of Heavy Metal pioneers, Diamond Head. After recordings and concerts with Diamond Head during the early nineties, he relocated to New York City and soon hooked up with Brooklyn band Dark Black Past, who besides having a killer live show, managed to chart on CMJ with no radio promotion. Life took him to California, pursuing shows and recordings with various bands as well as recently performing at Diamond Head's 25th Anniversary reunion shows. Karl has rocked with Johnny again in Bloodroot and has recorded several tracks on the Bloodroot EP.
