9/22/05 - BLOODROOT INTERVIEW... Get to know a little about the boys and how they feel about the new CD, Deep. Here a preview: Getting Deep With Bloodroot - Interview by Sven Krofta - Denmark -
Krofta
: So, first off, let’s introduce you guys, sitting here is Johnny Young guitarist, lead vocal and founder, Roman, bass and vocals, Ross on drums and Doug, guitar and vocals. Okay guys, first question, and anyone can take it, but tell me a little about how Deep came into existence?
Johnny: I really wanted to do an album that was gonna take some chances – some different time signatures, different chords, sing about stuff I’ve not covered on any album until now. Plus, this album continued the great chemistry we’ve been able to conjure up with this band.
Krofta: So, do you think you succeeded? Are you happy with the final product? MORE

8/30/05 -
A ROMAN SIGHTING!!! What an amazing night we had last Friday at Blaggard's Pub and of course, thanks to all of you who showed up - you got a great show, and you were among a privileged group who got to see the unofficial return of Roman, our bass player who just 2 months ago was in a major motorcycle accident. There are pictures and we're busy getting them so we can show everyone. To sum it up, though, Roman has got a stadium-sized heart and despite the obvious discomfort and everything else that went along with sneaking out of a hospital in a semi-healed, braced and crutched-up state, he played great, looked awesome, but obviously still needs a considerable amount of rehab hospital time - stay tuned for updates,.. and pics.

8/02/05 -
Hi crew, well, Roman's getting better from the motorcycle accident, healing and rehabbing and he'll be back with us soon. In the meantime we're still doing a shows and we'll be at The Pussycat Lounge this Friday. Come out and share another Bloodroot experience with the boys.

6/27/05 - First off, thanks to all of you who showed up for our late show at SEHO on Thursday night. We knew it'd be a fun night when we showed up and the doorman commented, "I like these guys, they attract a lot of females." And, it just got better after that. Instead of the bar, this time the girls just danced with each other - in that way that only girls can dance with each other. Then, one started to spank another and, well, you'll just have to come to one of our shows to know more, now, won't you? Next up, another Wednesday night at The Continental after a week or so of well deserved rechargin and rehearsin, our version of R-and-R.

6/22/05 - Hey everyone, who ever said you can't find a rock star in Manhattan, well we found a bunch at the private party for Ann St. James at the Cutting Room on Tuesday night. Bloodroot took the stage with Ted Mason formerly of Modern English and vamped a beautiful rendition of cult staple I Melt With You - which started sticking directly to the original tune, but then transitioned into a reggae jam, then into dance hall, then into I'm Feeling Allright (the old Joe Cocker classic), then back into I Melt With You. It was about as cool as a jam could get, and everyone enjoyed and applauded when it was all over. I think Ms. St. James was having a pretty good time judging by the size of the ear-to-ear grin she was wearing. Next up, Thursday night at 11:30pm on Ludlow Street at Seho for a Dirty Dick Productions extravaganza - Click Here For More.

6/15/05 - Okay, people, please tell me that you didn't miss our Wild Spirits debut last Friday night. If you did, you missed several of the hottest girls in NYC dancing up on the bar for most of our set. See that, Bloodroot'll get you chicks, as if you needed even more reasons to come out and see us LIVE. And, it looks like we are going to be doing some more shows at Wild Spirits since the last time we saw Johnny, he was whooping it up with Momma, the promoter, drinking and laughing and talking about Bloodroot doing more shows there.

In the meantime, you may want to come see our next little show, a night put on by Dirty Dick Productions at Seho on Ludlow St. next Thursday night at 11:30pm - Click Here For More. This time we're going for 5 girls on the bar, and dammit, we've been training hard, eating our Wheaties, so if you want to see some hot chicks letting it all hang out, you better show up.

6/09/05
- So, as usual, we'd like to thank everyone who showed up at the Laurie Beechman Theater to see Bloodroot's triumphant theatrical debut on stage with comedy group Mini Red Satan last Friday and Saturday nights. That's right folks, not only did we play and entire set of our own stuff and serve as the house band, but we all girded up our loins and entered the Thespian community by appearing in the last comedy sketch.

And, if you missed us with Mini Red because the gig went so well, we're sure to be doing another night of Sketch, Drugs & Rock N' Roll. Meanwhile, we'll be at Wild Spirits this Friday night on the upper east side, a cool new hard rock club that's working it's stones off to become another big time NYC place. Click here more info...

5/31/05
- We want to thank everyone who joined us at The Continental last Wednesday night, we played early but had quite a few folks there to see us, all in all a pretty nice time at a tried, true & tested NYC rock watering hole.

Next up is this week's mega-shows with Mini Red Satan at The Laurie Beechman Theater, click here for more info, but you better not miss this. There's a heavy rumor that there may even be Comedy Central producers at the gig scoping out the whole format for a TV show. We'll see, but one thing is for sure, YOU BETTER BE THERE!

5/18/05
- We hope you were there this weekend in Brooklyn because we had a blast at the Annual Fabulous 5th Avenue Festival And Mayfair. Gigandor thanks to Emmet our favorite tavern proprietor down at Smith's Tavern on 5th Ave betw. 8th & 9th sts. in good old Park Slope. Emmet was nice enough to invite us to play on their stage during the afternoon.

Started kinda ominously, though, the rain looked imminent, then came the drops - I ran for a tarp to cover our gear, but Johnny pulled some weird wind-god-pagan-rites-of-springtime-and-pizza-n-beer dance outta his butt and really, believe me when I tell you, damn thing worked. No rain.

So, we played some good ol' covers for a bit then did a set of the new material from DEEP. I looked down and when I looked up after we came out of Strength and went to change tunings, I was shocked to see how many people had stopped to see us. You don't get all that sometimes when you're up on the stage playing, you go into that zome and sometimes the audience can surprise you when you come out of your trance.

Next week, May 25th, it's The Continental, details? Click Here. See you there... really, we love seeing you, so come on down and we'll liquor you up and throw you to the muggers,... Noooooooooo, just kidding, you'll have a great time.! Plus there are more shows coming, too... More...

Plus, there's the two huge showcase shows coming on June 3 & 4 at a swanky Broadway Theater place. We'll be combining our show talents with our adopted sister sketch comedy group, Mini Red Satan.

5/9/05 - Well, hopefully you got to see us at CBGB's Lounge because we had a lot of fun. Saw a lot of people, old friends, made some new ones. It's percolating, almost time to start breaking out.

4/19/05
- Ahhhh springtime in NYC, here we call it April 22nd, but in other places I've heard it actually consists of more than one 74 degree afternoon - yup, we get that one day of spring, and then it's 150 days of 117 degree heat with 436% humidity - enough to melt faces and pavement alike. Strangely enough, NYC spring is this Friday, THE SAME DAY AS OUR SHOW AT CB's. So why not spend the fleeting NYC Spring 05 with us? We're rehearsing our feedbags off, and putting up flyers everywhere - but that's what it's all about. We love to play, and we can't wait for Friday - we hope you make it out to see us play our loud music and hang out - or check our shows page for more upcoming gigs.

4/11/05
- Great rehearsal yesterday, even had some fans stop by. We've moved everything around in the rehearsal space we use, now it looks more like a stage. The CD's have come in, and they look really awesome, now we're all about getting the promo stuff out. There's a lot of work to all this... work, work, work, and soon, play, play, play...

4/05/05 - We're waiting with baited breath for the CD's to come in. They should be here any day, then comes a publicist. That's kinda hard, too, becuase you want somebody who really believes in the music. And, there are shows coming up, we're moments away from announcing them, too, just some t's to tattoo on and some i's to close - haha.. but it's gonna be CBGB"s Lounge on April 22 & The Continental on May 25 . Check out our shows page for the details. Stay tuned, we're 'bout to busssss', wiiiii-iiiide open....

3/20/05 - Woo-hoo Spring 2005, new beginnings, rebirth, and a new Bloodroot CD. We played on Wednesday, our first gig with Doug, our new guitar player, and things went GREAT! Wait till you all hear how absolutely FAT it sounds with another guitar. Plus, Johnny's & Roman's vocals are so locked in, you'd think they were brothers - and Ross' percussive limbs, well, we swear, NO STEROIDS, just all natural drumming bombast. Make sure you keep an eye on the shows page so you don't miss a show near you as we tour for the upcoming release DEEP.

3/08/05 - 60 degrees this morning, 20 degrees by tonight, rain then snow then ice, ahhhh, we sure do love the east coast winters... well, the CD is almost ready. rehearsing, more rehearsing, then some more after that. posters, t-shirts, art, pictures, coming up with cool things to say - a lot is going on right now. and there's a gig coming up at the Pussycat Lounge in NYC. see our shows page for more info.

12/03/04 - It's 4:30 in the morning, and we just finished mixing Deep, the title cut of the new cd. Just a few last tweeks and this beast should be done. CYC0 Mike from Pittsburgh made the coolest cover for us. If you're thinking about getting a tattoo and you're anywhere near Pittsburgh, he's the man, he's done some way cool work on Roman. We've added a new guitar player, Doug,he's way cool and he helps take our live show to another level. We'll be touring in a couple of months once the cd is out and around.

We're looking forward to seeing everybody again!
peace out

Why Bloodroot? What happened to Johnny Young?
Well, for all our fans that have supported the Johnny Young band do not fret. The band still consists of Johnny on vocals and guitar and Jairo on bass. And on drums, the great Karl Wilcox. The reason for the change is purely political. Many music insiders and bookers advised us to change the name of the band in order to stand out and be recognized easily. We also wanted a catchy name. The logo doesn't hurt either.

We sought to create a marketable brand for ourselves. A niche, if you will. Something to catch the attention of the record industry and fans alike. And we feel we have found this with Bloodroot. To our loyal fans, you can expect only improvement from the music we bring you. We plan to continue kicking ass and bringing people along for the ride. Thank you for your support.
